Natalie Gee's Q&A
Q1: As Supervisor, would you commit to revitalize Sunset Boulevard and ensure the corridor is maintained at a level comparable to Park Presidio Boulevard?
Yes. Sunset Boulevard connects thousands of residents every day and deserves maintenance at the same level as Park Presidio Boulevard, including year-round irrigation, enhanced green-space upkeep, and completion of the gray-water irrigation system.
As a current advisor to Friends of Sunset Boulevard, I come to this role with an existing relationship and real familiarity with the corridor’s needs. As Supervisor, I will keep an open door for proposals and work with the group to hold DPW and relevant departments accountable for delivering on these improvements.
Q2: Would you strongly advocate with City officials for the completion of the recycled water connection along Sunset Boulevard, ensuring year-round irrigation even during drought conditions?
Yes.
Q3: Considering San Francisco's budget deficit and the potential for future economic downturns, will you ensure that the budgets and staffing for Sunset Boulevard are maintained or increased to align with inflation and avoid service reductions?
I’m the only candidate to have worked on the last seven city budgets both in times of surplus and in times of deficit. Aside from protecting essential public services, especially those serving vulnerable communities, we also have to invest in our communities. As a member of a union, I will never support layoffs of working people which include our gardeners who maintain the Boulevard. As I mentioned above, I will maintain my strong relationship with FOSB on projects, proposals, and City funding.
Q4: Considering the recent artificial‑turf controversy at Crocker Amazon, would you oppose installing artificial turf on Sunset Boulevard?
Yes, I oppose installing artificial turf on Sunset Boulevard. The Crocker Amazon controversy is a reminder of the real environmental costs, particularly microplastic pollution. Sunset Boulevard’s green spaces should be maintained with solutions that protect, not harm, the surrounding environment and wildlife.
Q5: Will you commit to drafting and submitting legislation within 12 months of your election to protect the public land along Sunset Boulevard, ensuring the corridor is preserved for public use in a manner similar to Park Presidio?
Yes. Sunset Boulevard is a neighborhood gem and green space that belongs to all District 4 residents, and I will commit to drafting and submitting legislation within 12 months to formally protect it.
Because the corridor is city-owned, the path is straightforward: work with the City Attorney and neighbors to establish protections that prevent privatization or development. That’s the kind of protection that outlasts any one administration.
If department heads or colleagues are resistant, I’m not going in alone. I will partner with organizations like Friends of Sunset Boulevard to get my colleagues on board. I’ve spent over 20 years doing community organizing, and I know that when people come together, it moves votes. I will work with you to build that case publicly and loudly until it crosses the finish line.
